Date Night - Spicing It Up!!!!

Hey Covenant Groupies,

As you all know, Kevin and I utilize our Friday's as our "Date Night's" and we'll incorporate so many things into our date nights to keep them fresh, fun and HOT! We'll starting tonight, the next three date nights will be spent in "Love Dare" workshops. Our Church's marriage ministry is hosting a 3-part workshop based on the film, "Fireproof" and the resource used in the movie, a book called, "Love Dare."

We will be exploring loving, honoring, respecting, forgiving and a host of other god-centered characteristics and how they will, not only strengthen our marriages, but stregnthen our hearst to "be" for our spouses even when we dont think they deserve it; even when they are reciprocating the same actions or feelings.

Hopefully, you've seen the film, but if you haven't, this resource challenged an unhappy, angry, non-Christian and verbally abusive husband to demonstrate a type of love he had never known to a wife thats slowly slipping away.

We are going to enjoy sharing with you all that God's doing with and throught us as we dare to do and be more for one another and others.

COURAGEOUS - Sherwood Church - New Film on Fatherhood

Hey Covenant Groupies,

The creators of "Fireproof announced the name and synopsis of their new film that goes into production Spring of 2010. Read below:

Sherwood Church, home of the hit independent movies FLYWHEEL (DVD only), FACING THE GIANTS, and FIREPROOF (2008’s top indie film), at its Sunday evening service tonight, announced the theme and title for Sherwood Pictures’ fourth movie. Senior Pastor Michael Catt, Executive Pastor Jim McBride, and ministers Stephen and Alex Kendrick—collectively the leadership team of Sherwood Pictures—made the announcement.

“The movie is about fatherhood and the title is one word: COURAGEOUS,” Alex Kendrick said, briefly outlining the plot. “Four fathers who are all in law enforcement—who protect and serve together—go through a terrible tragedy,” he said. “They begin looking at their role as fathers . . . and they begin challenging one another to fulfill God’s intention for fathers."

That single-word title, Pastor Catt said, echoes God’s call for men to “rise with courage” in their homes and as leaders. This at a time when 4 of 10 marriages end in divorce* and more than a third of all children live away from their biological fathers.

“The statistics on fatherless children are devastating,” McBride said. “And because the family is the building block of society, one important place to rebuild families is through fathers who stay and lead and love."

“God led us,” co-writer and producer Stephen Kendrick said to the audience of church members, many of them volunteer crew, cast, or catering in earlier Sherwood movies. “We believe God is calling men to rise up with strength and with leadership in their homes, with their families and with their children."

"For more then a year we’ve prayed to be sure that we’re pursuing God’s idea and not our own,” Catt said. “With action, drama, and humor, this film will embrace God’s promise in the Bible to, turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers."

Focusing on Fatherhood

“We focus on the crucial role of father; it’s not just to be a father who loves his kids,” said Alex Kendrick, co-writer/director of COURAGEOUS. “It’s to be engaged with a purpose—to be a father on purpose."

All four leaders of Sherwood Pictures are husbands and fathers. Pastor Catt has two children; Pastor McBride has four; Stephen Kendrick has four; and Alex Kendrick has six.

More Than a Movie

Sherwood movies entertain as they touch audiences where they live, and they show the means to live more fully through faith in God. FLYWHEEL focused on compromise and business integrity; FACING THE GIANTS on despair and hope; FIREPROOF on a dying marriage rekindled.

With previous Sherwood movies, fans, churches, and organizations across the country (and world) became “partners” in the movie’s impact—giving prayer support for production, distribution, and the movies’ messages. Ministries and outreaches used the films in creative ways. Churches built series and group studies on the topics; Sunday schools seized the momentum of good entertainment that emphasizes life-changing truths.

“It’s been the Bible’s story of Jesus multiplying the boy’s fish and loaves,” Alex Kendrick said. “God has multiplied these movies beyond our wildest dreams."

Principle filming of COURAGEOUS begins March 2010 in Albany. Like the previous three Sherwood films, COURAGEOUS will be marketed by Provident Films.

Sherwood Pictures is a ministry of Sherwood Church of Albany, Georgia, under the leadership of Senior Pastor Michael Catt and Executive Pastor Jim McBride.

Fireproof Date Night - Never Leave Your Partner Behind

Hey Covenant Groupies,

As we watched “Fireproof” this past Friday with our church, the movie continues to remind me of so many things that require so much of us as humans, such as: keeping the parasites out of our marriages, making sure there’s no gossip about your spouse to your family, co-workers and friends, live with a heart of selfless sacrifice, recognize and keep abreast of the many differences between men and women, our Covenant marriage vows, unconditional love and respect amongst many other things.

This film covered every area that the enemy would seek to destroy and cause self justified division. The slogan “Never Leave Your Partner Behind,” makes all the sense in the world each time I’ve watched the movie. Far too often, we find couples that have purposefully left their partners behind whether it’s emotionally, spiritually, psychologically; they have just checked out.

How do we get them back? I believe, that’s where unconditional love and respect come in – this is the ability to seek God’s love and respect and wash our spouses in it – regardless of their response. That’s the largest Christian message in this film and should be how we determine to live our lives daily. It’s difficult and will most certainly challenge us, but God has created and chosen us to live out this type of honor, not only towards Him, but more importantly, here on earth, to our spouses.

Also, take a look at our Pastor's most recent sermon and share your thoughts.

Lesson in Respect: A Walk in My Husbands Shoes - LITERALLY

Hey Covenant Groupies,

A year ago today the movie “Fireproof” was release and became the #1 selling Christian film of 2008. Last night our marriage ministry at NYCC had an amazing night hosting a “Fireproof” Movie Date Night with about 20 couples. The discussion afterwards was terrific as well. When we wrapped up Kevin took the men aside to offer them a challenge in loving their wives and I, in turn, pulled the women aside and offered them a challenge to respect their husbands more. The challenge was well received. Little did I know that I would have the opportunity to act upon my challenge immediately.

As we dispersed for the evening Kevin and I were running to catch the train and I quickly realized how chilly it was outside and my feet were cold in my open-toed shoes. However, I said nothing. By the time we go to our next stop, I mentioned to Kevin that I was cold because my feet were cold. His first response was, “I don’t want you to be cold, so why don’t you put my shoes on.” He carried an extra pair to work that morning. Now, from time to time, we’d laugh about how, although a little big, I could fit his shoes. These were his soft bottom suede loafers that I’ve always loved on him, that are a bit worn, but I never wanted to wear his shoes, LITERALLY, I was just cold.

So, without further reservation, I put them on. Here I was thinking I just wanted warm feet, but instead I got a unique opportunity to walk in my husbands shoes. Almost every step I took I looked down and saw the hours Kevin stands on his feet, the miles he takes to ride on public transportation, the dedication he puts in daily to provide for our family. What does he think about when he wears these shoes was one of my thoughts. I wanted him to know what my thoughts were as I wore HIS shoes, but instead, I glowed. I was able to RESPECT and empathize with what he goes though each day dealing with people and their attitudes as his feet hurt from the constant movement of wanting to be the best man he aspires to be.

There’s love, history, commitment, dedication, desire, passion, truth and tirelessness in those shoes, and I got a chance to wear them. What an honor! I felt proud wearing my husbands shoes; his symbol of provision, protection and choice.

Although I was able to walk in his shoes for a very short time, I’ve not been called to carry out his responsibilities, however, I also understand that there are things I can do to make his life a heck of a lot easier.

I commit to:
• Rub his feet more
• Continue to thank him for working
• Go out and buy him a nice warm comfortable pair of slippers (although he
will fight me on this)
• Empathize when he says he’s tired from walking
• Remember that evening as God’s way of giving me a peek into the daily
journey of my husband

“Fireproof” on DVD Tuesday, January 27, 2009

Hey Covenant Family,

Last Thursday, I interviewed Stephen Kendrick, writer, producer and director of Fireproof, the #1 independent film of 2008 and the 2nd highest ranking Christian film since “The Passion of the Christ.”

“FIREPROOF” is an action-packed life-altering love story from the creators of “FACING THE GIANTS” that opened September 26, 2008 in theaters across the country. It covers the travails of a couple already seven years into their marriage and now facing divorce.

Firefighter Capt. Caleb Holt (Kirk Cameron) who is the pinnacle of heroism to everyone in his town. He’s sacrificially entering the most dangerous situations where he’s saving and changing lives forever. However, at home, his wife Catherine (Erin Bethea), is suffering because their marriage is falling apart. As they prepare for a divorce, Caleb's father challenges his son to commit to a 40-day experiment referred to as "The Love Dare;" Caleb obliges, though mainly for his father's sake more than anything else. Caleb's limited interest in this endeavor is further dampened upon discovering the book's daily challenges are tied to his parents' newfound faith- Christianity.
But, as the tagline, “Never Leave Your Partner Behind“, suggests, marriage is going to prove to be, either a selfless or selfish journey.

As well, “The Love Dare” (www.lovedarebook.com), a plot device in the box office hit FIREPROOF (www.fireproofthemovie.com) until early audiences repeatedly requested copies for themselves, just hit #1 on the New York Times Paperback Advice Bestsellers. Written by Stephen and Alex Kendrick (the writers/director of FIREPROOF, respectively), The Love Dare is #4 on Amazon.com and, currently in its seventh printing. When Stephen and Alex Kendrick wrote the script for FIREPROOF, they knew that eventually they would expand the six days of The Love Dare seen in the film into a full book covering all 40 days.

If you've seen this film, let me know your thoughts. I've seen it 7 times already.
