Hey Covenant Family,
Last Thursday, I interviewed Stephen Kendrick, writer, producer and director of Fireproof, the #1 independent film of 2008 and the 2nd highest ranking Christian film since “The Passion of the Christ.”
“FIREPROOF” is an action-packed life-altering love story from the creators of “FACING THE GIANTS” that opened September 26, 2008 in theaters across the country. It covers the travails of a couple already seven years into their marriage and now facing divorce.
Firefighter Capt. Caleb Holt (Kirk Cameron) who is the pinnacle of heroism to everyone in his town. He’s sacrificially entering the most dangerous situations where he’s saving and changing lives forever. However, at home, his wife Catherine (Erin Bethea), is suffering because their marriage is falling apart. As they prepare for a divorce, Caleb's father challenges his son to commit to a 40-day experiment referred to as "The Love Dare;" Caleb obliges, though mainly for his father's sake more than anything else. Caleb's limited interest in this endeavor is further dampened upon discovering the book's daily challenges are tied to his parents' newfound faith- Christianity.
But, as the tagline, “Never Leave Your Partner Behind“, suggests, marriage is going to prove to be, either a selfless or selfish journey.
As well, “The Love Dare” (www.lovedarebook.com), a plot device in the box office hit FIREPROOF (www.fireproofthemovie.com) until early audiences repeatedly requested copies for themselves, just hit #1 on the New York Times Paperback Advice Bestsellers. Written by Stephen and Alex Kendrick (the writers/director of FIREPROOF, respectively), The Love Dare is #4 on Amazon.com and, currently in its seventh printing. When Stephen and Alex Kendrick wrote the script for FIREPROOF, they knew that eventually they would expand the six days of The Love Dare seen in the film into a full book covering all 40 days.
If you've seen this film, let me know your thoughts. I've seen it 7 times already.
